Selena

She was an artist, performer, creator and challenged boundaries in the musical world. The dual nature of her function as an Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She brought Tejano to mainstream fame with her innovative approach. In the same way that there are many who mourn a superstar who has died far too early, her passing was not a good time and ended a growing career. In order to prevent her achievements from becoming forgotten many of her fans in the last few times have been motivated to do even more. Selena's shooting death sparked emotions in the Latino society that could be likened in a way to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely well-known Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of younger and more mature adults. Selena has been called by some as the Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's family values off stage and her participation in AIDS awareness efforts provide a great example.
